      DIPSOMANIACS BIO

DIPSOMANIACS BIO May 2008

The Dipsomaniacs are from NJ and play melodic, hook-driven, sloppy, but spirited rock n roll. The Replacements have always been a decent reference point for the band's sound - power-pop with a heavy influence of 60s garage rock and the simplicity and directness of punk. The Dipsos love the Who and that shows too. They've been around since the mid 90s and have released 5 CDs and appeared on countless compilations while playing shows all over the country.

The band's songs have been featured on the MTV show's "Made" and "Sweet 16". Most recently the Dipsomaniacs contributed two songs to the FDR Label "About a Girl" CD.

The Dipsomaniacs will release their 6th CD in 2008 - the band is about 3/4 way through the recording process. New song titles include: "Blame it on the Gin", "Together We Can Rule the World", and "Loretta After All". Sound clips of the new tunes
are available at www.myspace.com/dipsomaniacs

DIPSOMANIACS BIO July  2006

Mick Chorba: Vocals & Guitar. Matt Maciolek: Bass. Paul Cranel: Guitar. Tom O'Grady: Drums.

The Dipsomaniacs are from NJ and play melodic, hook-driven, sloppy, spirited rock n roll. They've been around since the early 90s and have released 5 CDs and appeared on countless compilations while playing shows all over the country.

The newest album, Whatever Planet, which was recorded mostly between February and April 2005 at the new FDR Studio B in New Jersey, was released in September of 2005. Whatever Planet features eighteen eclectic new songs in the Dipsos distinctive  The Who - Undertones - Replacements - via - Fountains of Wayne garage pop style.

In addition to the eighteen new songs, the CD packaging includes a second free disc titled Down the Drain with 9 rarities tracks, all for the price of one CD!

The Dipsomaniacs have been growing in popularity with each successive album. Since the release of Freakin Eureka in 2003 (check out "Calvin" from this album) the band was selected winners of the Little Steven Underground Garage Contest in Philadelphia. As a result, the band received national radio play and also opened for Rocket from the Crypt at a sold-out show in NYC at the Irving Plaza.

The Dipsos also opened for Pat Benatar, playing to over 15,000 concert-goers at an outdoor festival in Camden, NJ. The Dipsos backed Philadelphia guitar legend Tommy Conwell for his track, "Long Live Rock", on the FDR Who Tribute CD and played with Tommy at the subsequent release shows. The Dipsomaniacs have also contributed a version of the Plimsouls' "Million Miles Away" to the FDR and American Laundromat Records tribute to 80s movies titled High School Reunion. Other contributing artists include Matthew Sweet, Dresden Dolls, John P. Strohm, and Kristin Hersh.

The band toured regionally from New England down through South Carolina, making festival appearances at the Dewey Beach Pop Fest, Sparklefest, and the International Pop Overthrow Festivals in Los Angeles, New York and Philadelphia.

The Dipsomaniacs now look to expand their reach through more touring in support of Whatever Planet. Mick Chorba, Dipso songwriter/singer, is currently writing the material for the next Dipso CD - the band plans to rehearse the new tunes soon and begin recording in the fall of '06.

Band bio 2004

The Dipsomaniacs have not changed their philosophy much in the years since they first formed in Ron Mitchell's dank Trenton, NJ basement. In the mid ‘90’s these four friends formed to drink cheap beer and play the songs they love by bands like the Who, the Replacements, Cracker, The Beatles, The Clash, and the Ramones. The only difference now is in who’s listening, as the band’s hundreds of raucous live shows from the Northeast Corridor to Los Angeles have garnered a larger audience of fans who love the Dipsos’ particularly potent blend of power and melody.

The Dipsomaniacs latest, Freakin' Eureka (2003, FDR/Jam Records), features the band at its best. The eleven new songs on the album showcase both Mick Chorba’s finely crafted Replacements-via-Fountains of Wayne songwriting and the straight-ahead rocking of the incredibly tight live band that the Dipsos have become. Many of the loose ends are left tidily untied on this newest release, capturing the live energy of the band with spontaneous-sounding arrangements that feel like low lights and American beer.

The Dipsomaniacs have been growing in popularity with each successive release. Since selling out the first pressing of their previous album (The Life You’re Faking – 2001, FDR/Jam Records), the band has toured locally, successfully building a strong live fan base through regular shows in NYC, New Jersey, Philadelphia, Delaware and Baltimore. The Dipsomaniacs have also been busy contributing songs (original and covers) to countless label compilation CDs from as far away as Sweden (Pop Under the Surface Vol. 4, 1999). The band is also featured on two Face Down Records tribute albums – the Who Tribute CD, Who’s Not Forgotten (2004), and the Replacements Tribute CD, Left of the Dial (2003).

The Dipsomaniacs are now working to expand their reach through more touring in support of Freakin’ Eureka. Chosen as the Philadelphia winner in the Little Steven Underground Garage Rock Contest (May 2004), the band played at Irving Plaza in NYC in July 2004 opening for Rocket From the Crypt at a sold out show.  Other highlights were a July 4th outdoor festival appearance opening for Pat Benatar playing to more than 15,000 concert-goers.  The Dipsos recorded "Long Live Rock" backing Philadelphia guitar legend Tommy Conwell.  Tommy joined the Dipsos for the Who Tribute release show playing an amazing set of Who covers at a sold out show in Philly at the Khyber.

Fans can expect a compilation of B-sides, live tracks, and rarities from the band in 2005. Best of all for growing legions of Dipsos fans - the band is releasing a new full length CD titled, Whatever Planet, in Septmber of 2005.
